Insurer - the insurance company;
Insured - in case of personal lines such as life, health, personal accident, a person insured under a contract of insurance;
Policyholder - a person (natural person or legal entity) insuring property either in his or third party ownership and responsible for premium payment; Insured and Policyholder can both be the same person;
Beneficiary - a person (natural person or legal entity) entitled to insurance indemnification; this need not be the Beneficiary or the Policyholder;
Insurance Rate - insurance cost expressed in percentage terms;
Insurance Premium - cost of insurance paid by a Policyholder;
Subject Matter of Insurance - economic or financial interest covered under a contract of insurance;
Insured Risk/Peril - a harmful event which is covered under a contract of insurance;
Insurance Event - an event caused by an Insured Peril, occurrence of which triggers payment of insurance indemnification by the Insurer;
Sum Insured / Limit of Indemnity / Policy Limit - maximum amount payable under a policy of insurance, either overall or with reference to a particular section of a policy;
Excess / Deductible - the amount or proportion of some or all losses arising under an insurance contract that the Insured must bear, in another words - the amount of self insurance. Excess can be either conditional or unconditional;
